Asian Fencing Championships 2025: Indonesia Ready to Welcome the World and Boost Achievements
With Sport Tourism: Pleasure and Championships, Indonesia Combines Sports Excellence and Tourism Charm
JAKARTA - Indonesia is ready to host the international event Asian Fencing Championships 2025 which will be held at The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali, June 17-23, 2025.
With the theme "Sport Tourism – Pleasure and Championships", this championship serves as a strategic moment to revive the glory of national fencing while showcasing Indonesia's tourism potential to the world.
Chairman of the Indonesian Fencing Association (PB Ikasi), Dr. H. Amir Yanto, SH, MM, MH, in a press conference attended by Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo, emphasized that hosting the 2025 Asian Fencing Championships demonstrates Indonesia's seriousness in advancing the sport of fencing.
"We invite the world to see that Indonesia is not only competent in organizing international events, but also rich in culture and hospitality."
According to Amir Yanto, the 2025 Asian Fencing Championship is very prestigious as it will feature Asian fencers who won gold medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. PB Ikasi will use this as a moment to restore Indonesia's fencing glory.
"Indonesia last won a bronze medal at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia. This is because Indonesian athletes still lack international competition experience. Therefore, we will use this moment to restore Indonesia's fencing glory through the 2025 Asian Fencing Championships by fielding both senior and junior athletes," he said.
Echoing this, PB IKASI's Head of Development and Achievement, Dr. Masyhudi SH, MH, added, "This is a single international event with long-term impacts, both for sports achievements especially fencing and the nation's image. All parties are working hard to ensure its success."
Amir Yanto specifically thanked President Prabowo Subianto, the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora), the Ministry of Tourism, Bali Governor I Wayan Koster and related parties especially the Bali Tourism Office.
"We also thank the sponsors who have supported the organization of the 2025 Asian Fencing Championships," he stated.
Indonesian National Team's Readiness
The Head of the Asset Recovery Agency at the Indonesian Attorney General's Office mentioned that Indonesia will field 25 athletes in this international event which will compete for 12 gold medals in men's and women's épée, sabre, and foil categories.
"Initially, we conducted independent national training by selecting 52 athletes from the 2024 National Fencing Championship in Manado. They have undergone selection and 25 athletes have been chosen to strengthen the Indonesian National Fencing Team," he said.
Increased Number of Participants
PB Ikasi Secretary General, Firtian Judiswandarta, said that so far 442 athletes from 22 countries in Asia, Australia and Oceania will participate in this prestigious event in Bali.
"Our target of 24 participating countries has been achieved. And the number of participants could reach 800 athletes as several countries have sent emails and are still participating in international events spread across several countries," he said.
According to Yudis, his nickname, event preparations have reached 95 percent, including venue readiness, logistics, competition systems, and accommodations. "We have coordinated with related institutions including the issuance of visa on arrival," he affirmed.
This event is expected to increase foreign tourist visits to Bali and introduce Indonesian culture through the sport of fencing.
